Royal Aberdeen's Grant Joss, pictured, won the North East Youths golf championship at Newburgh on Sunday with rounds of 72 and 69 for 141. He finished two shots ahead of clubmate Donald MacAndrew (76-67) and Aboyne's Paul Simpson (73-70).
It was a pretty unpleasant morning weather wise and Newburgh was probably one of the few courses that was still open in Aberdeenshire after heavy overnight rain. Strathlene's Ryan Bain was the only player to break par in the morning to leave him leading by 1. The afternoon was a different story after the rain stopped with four players breaking par and Donald MacAndrew scoring a best of the day 5 under par 67.
There are many fine players from the North East who have won the James Ross Walker Trophy before including; James Byrne, Andrew Locke and Frank Coutts. A number of players have won the trophy twice, however, Frank is the only player to have won the event three times (1979, 80, 81).
