The North East District Men's Team capped a series of fine individual performances in recent weeks when they landed the Scottish Area Team Championships over the Kinross courses at the weekend. They powered to a 41/2 to 1/2 victory over defending champions Renfrewshire.
In the morning semi-final they had beaten Ayrshire the 2008 winners. This was the fourth victory for the North East, the previous successes coming in 1979, 1990 and 1992. The pairing of Bryan Innes and Anthonmy Bews started the ball rolling when they beat Adam and Gordon Stevenson 3&2 in the foursomes. Kris Nicol kept up the momentum with an eagle at the 15th to win 4&3 against Craig Wilson. Philip McLean made the result inevitable when he holed from 40 feet at the 14th to win by 5&4 over Andrew Farmer. David Law then halved with Mattew Clark, before Scott Larkin completed the day beating Ronnie Clark 4&2. |

Kris Nicol from Fraserburgh continued his fine run of form at the weekend when he came runner up in the Irish open Amateur Championships played at Royal Dublin. He finished on 293, 1 stoke behind Alan Dunbar the St Andrews Links Trophy holder. Kris had a disappointing opening 78 but followed that with a 72 which was the best score of the day on Saturday. This brought him back into contention. Final rounds of 72 and 71 were not quite good enough to see him home however. |
